# Ask AI

This portal has two ways to search, plus one-click actions for taking a page into an external AI tool.

## Two ways to search

Press **⌘K** or **Ctrl+K** to open the search box.

| | Classic search | Ask AI |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **What you get** | A ranked list of matching pages | A written answer, with links to its sources |
| **Best for** | An exact term, endpoint, or field name | Questions spanning several pages, or when you don't know the vocabulary yet |
| **How to start** | Just type | **Search with AI** in the search box, or the floating **Ask AI** button |

### Ask AI

Ask AI answers across the whole portal, not just the page you're on.

AI search might provide incomplete or incorrect results. Verify against the API reference before you build on it.

Conversations keep their history, so you can ask follow-ups without restating context. Each answer cites the pages it drew on, shown as **Based on *n* resources**.

Questions worth asking:

- "How do I run my first background check in staging?"
- "Which webhook fires when a report is finished, and what's in the payload?"
- "What do I need to collect from a candidate before ordering a report?"

### Classic search

Results filter by chips at the top of the search box: **All**, **Documentation**, and **API Reference**.

## Take a page into your own AI tool

At the top of every page, next to the page title, the **Copy** button has a dropdown arrow. Open it for six options — four for handing the current page to an external tool, two for connecting your editor to the Docs MCP server:

| Option | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| **Copy for LLM** | Copies the page as Markdown, ready to paste as context |
| **View as Markdown** | Opens the page's raw Markdown in your browser |
| **Open in ChatGPT** | Starts a ChatGPT conversation with the page as context |
| **Open in Claude** | Starts a Claude conversation with the page as context |
| **Connect to Cursor** | Installs the Docs MCP server in Cursor |
| **Connect to VS Code** | Installs the Docs MCP server in VS Code |

The two Connect options point your editor at the Docs MCP server itself, rather than handing over this one page's content. For other clients, including Claude Code and Codex CLI, see [manual setup in Build with Agents](/ai/build-with-agents#connect-an-ai-agent-to-the-docs-mcp-server).

Want your own AI tool connected to these docs generally, not just one page at a time? See [Build with Agents](/ai/build-with-agents).
